Everyday Chemistry in the time of Coronavirus
By Jeanette Glose Partlow, President of Maryland Chemical and Chemstation Chesapeake
“Chemistry is the study of matter, including its composition, properties, structure, the changes which it undergoes, and the laws governing those changes.”
Everyday Chemistry is all around us. Before the pandemic, when I thought about this, I focused on molecules and applications.
In this time of coronavirus, the Everyday Chemistry all around us is the Chemistry among people, around our globe and in our homes, neighborhoods and organizations.
It is a time of great fear and great sadness.
It is a time of great stress and distress.
It is a time of great caring and great kindness.
It is a time of great courage and great resilience.
Now we are learning, In the words of our Team members, a new view of Everyday Chemistry:
- We can’t take life for granted now. Focus on what matters.
- Kindness is key. Pay it forward
- Teamwork is beyond essential.
- Find your purpose in a new way.
- Let each moment matter.
- Each day starts anew.
- Be more patient and understanding… starting with yourself.
- Serve others.
- Be strong. Be resilient.
- Together we will get through this.
We are deeply thankful to all on the frontlines and to all at home, for together, we are lifting, serving, supporting, and caring for one another. From our families to yours, thank you, take care and stay safe.
