Maryland Chemical Sponsors You Be the Chemist 2nd Year in a Row
2016 marks the second year in a row that Maryland Chemical sponsors You Be the Chemist. President Jeanette Glose Partlow was very excited to bring the local challenge to Baltimore County and says “this event opens up the world of chemistry to students and is exciting for the whole community to have such an event that gets young people engaged in chemistry because life is chemistry.” The first ever local Baltimore County event was hosted by Towson University on March 19th, 2016.
11 students participated and the winner was middle student Emily Sheridan from Notre Dame Prep, Jeanette’s Alma Mater. The You Be The Chemist Challenge® is an interactive academic contest that encourages students in grades 5-8 to explore chemistry concepts and their real-world applications. The Challenge provides a unique opportunity for a variety of individuals and organizations—including schools, members of the chemical industry, educators, and other community partners—to come together and show their support for STEM education.
