You be the Chemist Baltimore City School Challenge won by Notre Dame Prep Student Rylan Sachs
Maryland Chemical was thrilled to again be a sponsor for the Chemical Education Foundation’s “You Be the Chemist” Maryland challenges. In March 2018, the local Baltimore City challenge was held at Towson University, hosted by Dr. Mary Sajini Devadas, Assistant Professor of Chemistry at Towson University. Dr. Devadas supervises a Research lab in Nanochemistry and has been a strong supporter of the YBTC Baltimore Local Challenge
Mary Agnes Sheridan, an educator from Notre Dame Prep coordinated this year’s local challenge. Judges included a representative from Maryland Chemical as well as Patrick O’Hara, an educator from Cathedral. Patrick is the Science Department Chair for the School of the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen.
This year’s winner was 8th Grader and class of 2022 Rylan Sachs.
The You Be The Chemist Challenge® is an interactive academic contest that encourages students in grades 5-8 to explore chemistry concepts and their real-world applications. The Challenge provides a unique opportunity for a variety of individuals and organizations—including schools, members of the chemical industry, educators, and other community partners—to come together and show their support for STEM education.
